Synopsis
How do you punish an immortal?

By making him human.

After angering his father Zeus, the god Apollo is cast down from Olympus. Weak and disorientated, he lands in New York City as a regular teenage boy. Now, without his godly powers, the four-thousand-year-old deity must learn to survive in the modern world until he can somehow find a way to regain Zeus's favour.

But Apollo has many enemies - gods, monsters and mortals who would love to see the former Olympian permanently destroyed. Apollo needs help, and he can think of only one place to go . . . an enclave of modern demigods known as Camp Half-Blood.

Review
Overall opinion: Rick Riordan is my all-time favourite author, and I am once again reminded why!! Reading his novels always makes me so happy! This book welcomed me back into the world of Percy Jackson with open arms after I had been away for two years (yeah that’s bad isn’t it, I didn’t reread any of the books from the previous series after the Blood of Olympus came out in 2014…) It felt like I never left! I just dived right into this book as soon as I got it and it was AMAZING!!

Writing: I am in love with Rick Riordans writing! I have read so many books of him now that his writing feels so familiar to me! Nonetheless his writing never bores me even the slightest. And once again his writing was phenomenal! It was funny with a lot of witty jokes and sarcastic remarks and I just love that! And even though it has a lot of humour, Rick Riordan still manages to tell a serious story and make you feel all kinds of different emotions like happiness but also fear for the characters and sadness. Even through all of his jokes, he really gets you to feel with the characters as if you are with them and living through all those experiences yourself. I really believe that is a very special skill.

Plot: This the first book of the third series set in the same world with the same characters, that should get boring right? Well that is not the case with this book! Despite this being the third series, the plot was still original and new and extremely enjoyable! Punishing a God by making him a mortal, amazing!! I don’t think anything Rick Riordan writes can ever be boring!

Characters: Rick Riordans characters are always so unique!! And they are written so well! I just feel like I know them personally (oh and how I wish I did :) ) In this novel we got to know a lot of fun and sweet new characters and we even got a peek at some of the old characters!! I’m so happy to finally know what happened to all of them after the Blood of Olympus!! And the new characters are just as amazing as the older ones. I really love how Apollo is such a self-centred ass it’s very refreshing and funny to read, also his character development is immense! And Meg is just so quirky and odd and I love her!

Relationships: The friendship build up in this book between Apollo and the other characters are great! He and Meg are just so funny together, especially when they annoy each other on purpose! I won’t spoil anything but there are also a few mentions of a love relationship between two certain boys which is extremely cute!! It just made me smile :)
Layout: Not only is the story phenomenal, the cover is gorgeous too!! I’ll never judge a book by its cover but a beautiful cover is always a nice bonus, isn’t it? :)  And the little intro thingies to the chapters were extremely funny!!

Flaws: How can there be any flaws in Rick Riordans book? Of course I can’t point out a single thing I didn’t like in this book! It was beyond my expectations!

Sum-up: So like I said before: Rick Riordan has done it again!! This book was absolutely amazing! It was funny, beautiful, original, new and refreshing and everybody should read it! I do recommend reading the Percy Jackson and the Olympians and the Heroes of Olympus series before you read this book (since this is the first in the third series).

Okay and can we just take a moment to appreciate this quote: “Some of the best demigods have gotten their start by blowing up toilets.” I just couldn’t stop laughing! Everyone who has read the Percy Jackson series will know why this is so funny!! I love it!!
