Short reaction: Beautiful, stunning, phenomenal!!

Fav Quote: “Some people can see things with their hearts. Others need to see them with their eyes.”

Hunting, gathering, and keeping his family safe—that’s the life seventeen-year-old Kol knows. Then bold, enigmatic Mya arrives from the south with her family, and Kol is captivated. He wants her to like and trust him, but any hopes of impressing her are ruined when he makes a careless—and nearly grave—mistake. However, there’s something more to Mya’s cool disdain…a history wrought with loss that comes to light when another clan arrives. With them is Lo, an enemy from Mya’s past who Mya swears has ulterior motives.

As Kol gets to know Lo, tensions between Mya and Lo escalate until violence erupts. Faced with shattering losses, Kol is forced to question every person he’s trusted. One thing is for sure: this was a war that Mya or Lo—Kol doesn’t know which—had been planning all along.

Overall opinion: I had been anticipating this book from the moment I saw it!! So when the release date came I immediately bought it and I don’t regret it at all!! This book was so good!! Even better than I expected!! This book initially intrigued me because I’m really into prehistory, it’s just so interesting!! I’ve read prehistoric fiction before but never in the YA genre and after this books I think we need a lot more prehistoric fiction in YA!!! I loved it so much!!

Writing: The way this book was written was so unique! At least I haven’t seen anyone use this style before. It was a bit confusing at the beginning because it is mainly written like someone is telling a story to another person and thus addressing that other person with you. But after a while I got used to it and I thought it was really well done!!

Plot: So the plot is sort of a pride and prejudice retelling set in prehistory, I haven’t read pride and prejudice so I can’t really say anything about that aspect but I really enjoyed the plot in this book!! I thought it was very original but I can’t say that for sure :) The story kept me hooked from start to ending especially since it was written in such a great way!! It just kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time!! Mainly because you’re kept in the dark just as much as the main person Kol is kept in the dark. It keeps you curious! And the story was so interesting!! I’m really curious to know how the story goes on in later books :)

Setting: Like I mentioned before it is set in prehistoric time and it was so interesting to read about that!! You can really see that the author has put a lot of research into prehistory! The setting is so well described in the book!! It’s rough and wild but also beautiful!! It just gave me a strong urge to go outside and enjoy nature! The surroundings in this book were also beautifully described!! I loved that so much!! It almost felt like I was there, lying in the grass with Kol, listening to the buzzing bees :)

Characters: The characters were all so unique and different!! They were so diverse and well written, even though the story focusses on three main characters, all the other characters are still equally important and they weren’t flat side characters at all!! They all had their own unique personalities and I loved that!! I always like it when books are character driven, that way it really pulls you in and lets you feel with the characters!! This book did that really well!!

Relationships: The relationships were interesting! Keep in mind that this is set in prehistoric time and the way people acted around each other was very different from now. I think the author has managed to capture those differences really well!! That way it’s not your typical love story and it stays interesting!!

Layout: Okay this book is absolutely gorgeous!! I mean look at that cover!! Only that is enough reason to buy the book!! I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but I can’t help it!! J

Flaws: I’ve heard from some people that they thought that the book had a bit of a slow pace but I didn’t have that problem at all!! Aside from the slightly confusing beginning I can’t think of any flaws to this book! It was sooo goooodd!!

Sum-up: So yeah, this story was unique, gripping, interesting and just overall amazing!! If you are a fan of anything prehistoric than you should definitely read it!! If you don’t like any of that you should still read it!! It’s definitely worth your time, trust me!! J
